State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey stands side by side with Executive Director Kim Medina.
State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey visited the Union as a continuation of his effort to become more acquainted to the struggles of members and working families. Bailey is a relatively new face in the Senate. He represents the 36th Senate District in the northern Bronx and a part of Yonkers. He was first elected in 2016 after State Senator Ruth Hassel Thompson retired.
He held a meeting with Executive Director Medina. She stressed that while she appreciated the 6.5 percent increase that direct care employees received from the NYS Budget for 2018, more has to done for home care and other employees receiving state funding.
“There has not been a trend factor for a number of years and the time is now for the legislature to remember these workers in the next legislative session in January 2018,” she said.
She considered Bailey sensitive to the needs of members and said, while he is relatively new, she believes that he has a promising future.
