Hundreds of union child care workers gathered outside Manhattan’s City Hall Wednesday to say that the city has been holding out on them for a fair contract.
The protesters said they have been waiting for a new contract for three years.
Some Head Start workers also claimed they never received the 1.5 percent increase they were promised.
"We need our money. We work for it, we need our money,” said one worker.
“We work hard, so treat us right. And also our medical insurance, we want it to stay the same,” said another worker. “Basically, we want our increase. We need our money. We love working with the children, for 10 years I’ve been working with them. Love my job, need more money."
The Administration for Children's Services said reduced federal and state financial support means all sides have to figure out how to do more with less.
