Early Childhood Staff Development Instructors


Job Description:

District Council 1707, AFSCME, AFL-CIO is seeking part time, occasional instructors to teach daytime staff development workshops in day care and Head Start centers in New York City. Workshops include:

Anger Management, Art and Music Activities in the Classroom, Behavior Management (Observation & Assessment of Behavior in EC Programs), Behavior Management Plans, Caring for Infants and Toddlers, Child Abuse and Maltreatment (state certified), Conflict Resolution, Creative Curriculum and Early Childhood Education Assessments, Effective Communication Skills for Working with Families in Early Childhood Programs, Establishing Positive Classroom Environments, First Aid/CPR (certified), Health & Safety at the Workplace, Including Literacy in Lesson Plans, Including Math in Lesson Plans, Including Reading in Lesson Plans, Including Science in Lesson Plans, Lesson Planning and Cultural Diversity, Nutritional Needs for Early Childhood Programs, Principles of Early Childhood Development, Stages of Childhood Development, Statutes and Regulations, Stress Management, Substance Abuse, Successful Transition/Successful Classroom Management, Teaching Methods and Strategies, Teamwork and Effective Communication, The Environment, Intelligence and Children’s Experiences, Violence Prevention and Intervention (certified), Working with Children with Disabilities.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education or a related field.
Five to ten years of teaching or relevant experience in early childhood programs
New York State Teacher Certification
Must be able to travel throughout New York City
Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Bilingual skills in Spanish or Mandarin are a plus.
Respectable hourly rate of pay.
